Grand Mercure Hualing is erected next to a gigantic mall. It is a majestic brown marble tower, which serves as a landmark in the neighborhood.
The reception hall is impeccable, vast and luxurious βtrue 5-star standard. Reception staff was efficient and spoke English reasonably well. I was given a twin-bedded room on the 9th floor, which looked brand new, with elegant furniture in beige tones.
Beds were reasonably large and very comfortable. However, the bathroom was tiny and surprisingly badly lit. At night, sensors in the hall beeped at regular intervals, which could be heard from the beds and was quite annoying. To be fair to the Mercure chain of hotels, this hotel is being renovated and must have only just been acquired by the chain because Taxis dont know it as the Grand Mercure.
I didnt see any Mercure branding except a small plaque on the front counter. Friendly staff spoke good Chinglish.
