Hardeep Sandhu has been locked up for 15 years after the brutal attack in Derbyshire. Hardeep Sandhu, 39, beat his victim with a brick until she passed out and then repeatedly raped her for two hours as she went in and out of consciousness.
She suffered multiple injuries to her head, face, arms and hands during the prolonged attack in a garden near Hartington Street in Derby. A DNA sample was found at the scene of the crime but the profile was unidentified. However, Sandhu was arrested for being drunk and disorderly last year and his DNA matched that found at the scene of the rape.
Detective Inspector Donna Sisson, who heads the Operation Diamond team in Derby, said: "This could easily have been a murder investigation and the length of the sentence reflects the serious, sustained nature of the attack. Sandhu was jailed for eight years for rape and seven years, to run consecutively, for wounding with intent. By Laura Connor.
